Sorry! Wrong Chimney!

Sorry! Wrong Chimney! by Jack Sharkey and Leo W. Sears

Our Fall 2009 production was Sorry! Wrong Chimney! by Jack Sharkey and Leo W. Sears.

The production ran from November 5th to November 21st, 2009 (Thursdays to Saturdays) at Bedford Players Theatre (All Saints Church Hall), 1408 Bedford Highway, Bedford, Nova Scotia. The H1N1 flu (so-called swine flu) infected the cast. The dress rehearsal, last Thursday and Friday shows were canceled. A matinee on Sunday November 22nd was held to give those with reservations for the last Thursday and Friday to see the show.

Directed by Jill Curley.

The Story

Sorry! Wrong Chimney! is a wacky, lighthearted Christmas farce full of mistaken identities and zany foul ups, with a smattering of slapstick comedy.

David Tuttle is moonlighting as a department store Santa so that he can buy his wife- Samantha Tuttle a fur (or other expensive gift i.e. pearl necklace) for Christmas. He tells her he's working late at the office, but she finds out he isn't at the office. Problems ensue with the secret because of Sam's phone call to the office and the constant barging in of their neighbors, William Weldon and his snooty wife Natalie. William is a psychiatrist who loves to hypnotize people. Add a slightly off balanced Santa burglar (Kris Kreigle) his tough gun moll Sheila and a hypnotized dancing, stripping and confused policeman into the mix to add to the merriment of this rollicking tale. Each character is different from the other and the physical comedy adds to their diversity.

Bios

Stacey Fownes (Samantha Tuttle) is back on stage again after directing last season's Maggie's Getting Married, feeling like she's back where she belongs. Stacey completed her honours in Drama from Bishop's University and was thrilled to take part in such productions as MacBeth, Dangerous Liaisons, A Flea in Her Ear, and Les Belles Soeurs. Her roles with Bedford Players are numerous and include Frances in No Sex, Please, We're British, Phoebe in Romantic Comedy, Buffy in There's a Burglar in My Bed, and Susie in Who's in Bed with the Butler?. Thanks go to her office mates at Presse Mason. Love always to her folks.

Michele Gaudet (Natalie Weldon) is making her debut with Bedford Players. She has previously been seen on stage with The Gilbert & Sullivan Society and backstage with TAG, but she decided that dressing like Joan Collins in Dynasty would be the best way to test the waters in Bedford. While dealing with the minutiae of a stage production by night she deals with the minutiae of medical laboratory testing at the IWK Health Centre by day. Michele believes that trying to herd two cats at home has given her special skills to deal with community theatre personnel. Special thanks to the cast and crew for providing such a welcoming atmosphere, and to Darrel for understanding that sometimes a girl requires another husband for a few months. Thanks, and enjoy the show!

Curtis Skinner (David Tuttle) is excited to be in his second show with Bedford Players, the previous one being Maggie's Getting Married. He thanks them for taking him back! Hailing from Newfoundland, Curtis has been acting since he was a teen in everything from Shakespeare to Musicals, Dramas to Kid's Shows. He has many to thank along the way, most of all his fiancee, Lori, for having to deal with all his different characters. He also wants to thank the Cast and Crew for all the work they have put in to this production, and of course Mom and Dad.

Michael Taylor (William Weldon) is back with Bedford Players for his second appearance in a row, having recently appeared as Tom Duncan in Maggie's Getting Married in the Spring of this year. That was such a great experience that he could not wait to get back on stage in front of the wonderful audiences Bedford Players' Productions attract. He is once again thankful to be working with such a talented and helpful cast and crew, from which he has already learned so much. Mike wants to thank his wife Lisa and daughters Hillary and Lindsay, who have been a source of inspiration and support during his foray into acting, as they have been in other parts of his life. The thing he hopes for most out of this production is that the audience has a truly enjoyable time and that they make future Bedford Players' Productions part of their entertainment plans.

Robin Saywood (Kris Kreigle) started his 'amateur acting career' twenty five years ago, quite by accident really, and has been thoroughly enjoying himself in all aspects of community theatre ever since. Hubtown Theatre in Truro was his first step on the boards, coming to Bedford in 1994. This has been Robin's 'theatre home' since then, with visits to the stages of TAG and Dartmouth Players. He says it's great to be back on stage here in Bedford, acting the fool. The last time was as Brian Runnicles in No Sex Please, We're British! - a dream of a part for him. Kris Kreigle is a bit of a nut, so it's what you might call typecasting! Robin wishes to thank you all for coming because without you, the audience, we're nothing - so sit back, enjoy and have a great time.

Karen Shewbridge (Sheila) is happy to be in her second Bedford Players production. Sheila is a lot of fun and so is her partner in this Christmas caper - Kris Kreigle! Mother of two, Public Affairs Manager by day and a former broadcast journalist, her passion is the theatre and singing with anyone at anytime, including her buddies in what her husband calls her "garage" band. Some of Karen's roles include: Ana in the Pulitzer-nominated play, The Clean House and Sister Robert Anne in Nunsense (Dartmouth Players), Marianne in There's a Burglar in My Bed (Bedford Players), Kate in The Best of Friends (TAG), Deb in the film The Cab Driver (where she was nominated for a 2004 ACTRA award for Outstanding Performance Female), Lee in Marvin's Room (Dartmouth Players), The Baroness in The Sound of Music, Morgan LeFay in Camelot and Mrs. Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie - all three musicals performed at the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre in Newfoundland. Break a leg everybody!

Darrel O'Neil (The Policeman) is back for the second time performing with the Bedford Players after appearing in last year's 'Sinners' (where he also played a police man???). Over the last couple of years he has performed in The Foursome, Jack and the Beans Talk, and Office Hours all with the Theatre Arts Guild (TAG). For the first 15 years of Darrel's amateur acting career he was involved with the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Nova Scotia where he was fortunate enough to play several roles both on and off the stage. Most notably Dick Dead-Eye in HMS Pinafore and Wilfred Shadbolt in Yeoman of the Guard. He also served for many years on the Society's executive. When not on stage Darrel enjoys his daytime role as a Mechanical CAD Designer with a local Electronics Firm.

Jill Curley (Director) has been involved with Bedford Players for approximately 10 years, portraying various memorable and challenging roles in such productions as The Odd Couple: Female Version, Rumours, My Darling Judith , No Sex Please, We're British , Sinners and most recently, Maggie's Getting Married. She studied Theatre Arts , including improvisation , with the Director of Dalhousie's Theatre Department, Neptune Theatre and the Department of Acting in Amsterdam off and on for the last 20 years. Jill is also a member of the Atlantic Talent Agency where she taught Action: The Art of Screen Acting. This is her directorial debut for community theatre but Jill has directed school age children in the past where her interest in acting was peaked. Sometimes directing adult actors can be like leading playful children full of imagination and all that goes along with that. Directing has been a new and refreshing change for Jill and she thanks you, the patrons, for your consistent support in our productions.

Clair Henderson (Co-Producer) originally from the NE of England, but spent most of her adult life in the SW, as a member of HMRN. This was her chosen career for 22 years and it was here that she became a member of the Royal Navy Theatre Association. As an Actor, Clair has been in productions ranging from farce/pantomime to solemn psychological drama. She won Best Actress Award for her portrayal of a paranoid psychotic female in a One Act Play festival, an award for which she is really proud. Her favourite role was as the Wife Of Bath (Canterbury Tales-Chaucer) and the RNTA took this production to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They took Edinburgh by storm getting rave reviews. Clair, and family, made Canada home two years ago. Having put her involvement in theatre on hold, to fulfill the role of Mother, she chose to volunteer for Bedford Players because she found everyone very welcoming and friendly, and felt it to be a good place to rekindle her thespianism! Clair's first love is the stage and hopes to be back there. This is her first time producing, which she says is challenging, but enjoyable. Clair says Alleen Parsons has been fantastic guiding her along, and has no doubt you'll all enjoy 'Sorry! Wrong Chimney!'.

Alleen Parsons (Co-Producer) has been involved with Bedford Players for over twenty years. She has acted in plays, and produced or co-produced many more over that period of time. She's enjoyed working with a co-producer on the last two plays. Alleen is also busy fulfilling her role as liaison person between Bedford Players and All Saints Church, holding positions on both Boards. She says thanks to a great Cast, and kudos to the Production Crew who, in many cases have taken on more than one role to produce the play you are about to enjoy.

Karen Waterfield (Stage Manager) has enjoyed this opportunity to Stage Manage once again at Bedford Players. This experience has been unique; in that she did get to participate just a little bit more in the development of the performance! She extends appreciation to Jill, for the trust; to the Cast for their welcome, support and the many laughs along the way - and, particularly to Sandy, for offering and allowing herself to be taken up on her offer. Enjoy the show - it is a product of the commitment and cooperation of a great group of talented people!

Sandy Mitchell (Assistant Stage Manager) is delighted to take on the role as ASM, with this talented cast and crew. However she would much rather get back on stage again. Directors please note! Previous productions as ASM include Maggie's Getting Married, Bedford Players and Crazy For You, Dartmouth Players. Previous acting roles include The Murder Room and The Real Inspector Hound (BP) and Caught In The Net and Walking Happy (DP). The rest of her volunteer time with BP is taken up running a mail-out service, designing posters and programmes, while trying to keep her long suffering husband happy! Sandy says Break a leg everyone, except our esteemed Director who obviously takes things far too literally!
