Community Forum: New Bedford High School

A community forum regarding a possible arts enhancement to the new Bedford high school will be hosted by the Cobequid Cultural Society on Saturday, September 19, 2009. The goal of the forum is to gather community input, share information and organize a working committee.

The new high school, which will replace Charles P. Allen High School, presents an opportunity for a cultural/performing arts enhancement such as an auditorium which would benefit both the community and students.

Anyone interested in this initiative is welcome to attend, including members of the pubic and representatives of community arts groups in the Cobequid area (includes Bedford, Hammonds Plains, Sackville, Waverly, Fall River).

Date: Saturday, September 19, 2009
Time: 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Location: Charles P. Allen High School, 670 Rocky Lake Drive, Bedford

For more information or to pre-register, contact Elaine Loney at 832-0228, or Steve Scott at 835-3455, or visit www.cccas.ca

Sorry! Wrong Chimney!

Work has begun on our Fall production, the farce Sorry! Wrong Chimney! by Jack Sharkey and Leo W. Sears. Jill Curley will direct. Jill was recently seen in Bedford Players productions as Wanda in Maggie's Getting Married, Monica in Sinners and Barbara in No Sex Please, We're British. Our last Jack Sharkey production at Bedford Players was I Take This Man in Spring 2007.

Truly 'Community' Theatre

Theatre Sarnia is in rehearsal for their season opener for the 2009-2010 Season: "No Sex Please, We're British!". Our Director of the Bedford Players' Spring 2008 Reprisal of the same play, Karen Waterfield, had an opportunity to share our experiences with the Theatre Sarnia Director, Jean Simon via telephone in July. It was a great opportunity to reminisce about our play, and to recall the decisions we made along the way as we built our production. And, how nice to share them with another theatre group!

During the course of the conversation, it was revealed that this production is also a reprisal for Theatre Sarnia - a group that has been around for an amazing 83 years! There are several parallels to our two productions - including that 3 of the original cast members are appearing in the reprisal. Though not exactly next door, if anyone is travelling that way in October, consider taking in the Theatre Sarnia performance.

Use a Hearing Aid?

Bedford Players was busy over the Summer and had an audio loop installed. This will allow those who have a hearing aid with a T-setting to hear our performances much better. Do note, however, that there is a background hum and that we are searching for the source.

The audio loop was installed by Bell Aliant Pioneers.
